First Week of Summer

It's the first week of summer, and Bionic Man has already had to go out of town twice.  That does not bode well, me thinks.

The good news is, over the last three days, the children and I have been extremely productive.  I'm totally taking advantage of their enthusiasm at being home for the summer, and working them like slaves in the salt mines.  It's such a change from school routines that they haven't complained yet.  Obviously, I have no time for blogging this week because I have to capitalize on enthusiasm like that while I can.

Here's what we've done so far:

  • mowed the entire lawn.  Our yard is huge.  I volunteered to take on all lawn mowing duties this summer, as a form of exercise.  Pushing a huge mower all over a huge lawn in the blazing sun has to burn some calories, right?  It also makes me feel mighty proud when I see the lawn all nicely groomed and looking good when I'm done.
  • Weeded most of the flower beds in the backyard.  (WHAT was I thinking five years ago when I approved the creation of all of those beds?)  It's definitely a chore I was glad to have the children helping with.  They are getting pretty good at weeding.
  • Planted a salsa garden.
  • Planted hundreds of zinnia and sunflower seeds, in hopes that we'll have lots of flowers to cut later in the summer.
  • Planted 48 dwarf marigold plants around the edges of the salsa garden and zinnia beds.
  • Deep cleaned the girls' room.  Three garbage bags full of.....stuff....were filled and taken to the trash, and I haven't even finished the closets.
  • Rearranged the girls' room.  Endeavor and I figured out a way to divide the large room equally in half, and both girls are pleased with the new arrangement.  I have a feeling it is going to be easier for them to keep it clean, because all possibility of arguing over what belongs to whom has been eliminated.
  • Started pulling stuff out to the garage for the neighborhood yard sale this weekend.  (Which I just found out about yesterday, grrrrrr.)  I'm a little overwhelmed.
Wish me luck!  I've got a lot to do to get ready for the yard sale.  How's your summer going, so far?
